Special economic zones will function until 2026

Increasing the investment attractiveness of Poland and the chance to benefit from all the grounds offered by special economic zones constitute the main goal of prolonging the period of the zones’ operation until 2026. On 23 July 2013 the Council of Ministers passed 14 regulations  which introduce this provision.

Prolonging the period of operation of special economic zones will make them continue to be an important investment incentive, which will contribute to the increased flow of new projects to Poland. Longer operation of the zones is particularly important for representatives of sectors with low return on investment, e.g. the automotive sector, who frequently choose territories of special economic zones for their investments.

Thanks to the 14-year perspective of the zones’ operation, there is a realistic chance to fully benefit from the limit of grounds of special economic zones in Poland, i.e. 20 thousand ha.

Prolonging the period of operation of special economic zones is not at odds with the EU law as the principles of granting public aid within the zones are compliant with the community regulations. Modifications of the principles introduced by the European Commission in subsequent programming periods are introduced to the national law and are valid for businessmen who will obtain support after the modifications come into force.

The Council of Ministers issued a regulation submitted by the Minister of Economy, amending the regulations on the following special economic zones: Kamienna Góra, Katowice, Kostrzyn-Słubice, Kraków, Legnica, Łódź, Mielec, Pomeranian, Słupsk, Starachowice, Suwałki, Tarnobrzeg, Wałbrzych, Warmia and Masuria.
